British Pig Assocation

The British Pig Association was founded in 1884.  It is the official breed society, maintaining the herd books for the Berkshire, British Landrace, British Saddleback, Duroc, Gloucestershire Old Spot, Hampshire, Large Black, Large White, Mangalitza, Middle White, Oxford Sandy and Black, Tamworth and Welsh pig breeds.

With the majority of the breeds having less than 500 sows, one of the Association’s main tasks is to record the birth of all pedigree pig litters, with the objective not only of increasing numbers but also monitoring genetic diversity and geographical spread of bloodlines and genetics within each breed.

The Association also represents the interest of pedigree breeders to government, has developed a pedigree pork scheme to assist members with the marketing of their pork and support pig classes at agricultural shows.
